Sweet Pea’s is a local on-demand and wholesale bakery owned and operated by Rachel Smith. The products that you will enjoy from our kitchen are the mouth-watering, old fashioned kind grandmas used to make.
Although she has not received any formal training, Rachel’s interest has always been in food. Her love for homemade baked goods, especially those recipes she grew up with, is what inspires the many craveable products that come from Sweet Pea’s kitchen. Her earliest memories are of baking with her mom and grandmother (now 94), as well as making her own “culinary creations” from mud, wild strawberries, chicken scratch, dandelions or anything else she could use to create her imaginary dishes. Trips to local bakeries, watching Julia Childs, and her mom’s homecooking were her earliest delights. It was written in her baby book at eight months, “she likes bread and cake.”
A desire to share her love of all things food, inspired her to open a sucessful coffee shop/cafe in 2001. After having owned and operated Glorious Beans Cafe in Albertville Premium Outlets for 5 years, Rachel decided it was time for a change. With a commitment to her husband and three growing children, the constant activity and demands of such a busy site no longer suited their life. However, Rachel couldn’t stop baking, and when a local meat market decided to stock her pies, Sweet Pea’s was oficially born.
So, where did the name come from? “Sweet Pea” was a nickname given to Rachel by her grandparents when she lived with them during her college years. Also, the Sweet Pea flower is old-fashioned, sweet smelling and evokes memories of an era gone-by.
